OPC STA project

Customer: ENTSO-E

Country: Belgium

Period: 2019 - 2020

Development of a platform to support coordinated services for Transmission System Operators (TSOs) and Regional Security Coordinators (RSCs) and conduct pan-European studies on Outage Planning Coordination (OPC) and Short Term Adequacy (STA).

Services delivered

  • The platform supports the STA process that allows 42 TSOs and 6 RSCs to conduct a joint Adequacy process designed to assess the remaining capacities in each country and detect potential adequacy issues.
  • The STA process uses a deterministic and probabilistic methodology and provides a daily adequacy assessment for the next 7 days. Antares is used to complete the calculation, and a format converter (specifically developed) processes the input data and distributes the calculations. The computation of these 10,000 scenarios for 42 TSOs takes less than 20 minutes for all hours of the next 7 days.
  • The overall platform is based on a client / server mode, with decentralized use of the application. The platform is compliant with the ENTSO-E Security Plan requirements.
