Energy cooperation: RTE international hosts an EVN-NPT delegation

Paris, September 2025 – As part of a technical assistance project launched in late 2022, RTE international has welcomed last week a delegation from EVN-NPT (Electricity of Vietnam National Power Transmission) for a study tour in France.

Supporting Vietnam’s energy transition

With annual economic growth of 7 to 8%, Vietnam’s electricity consumption is increasing by 10% per year. In order to meet the needs that this growth brings, the country has adopted its National Power Development Plan 2021–2030, with a vision extending to 2050. This roadmap charts the course towards modernizing the power system, integrating more renewable energy and expanding regional interconnections.

Mandated by the French Development Agency (AFD), RTE international is supporting EVN-NPT in this strategic shift. The technical assistance program combines knowledge transfer, technical workshops and site visits. More than fifty experts from RTE and RTE international have already been mobilized, with the project running until October 2025.

An immersion at the heart of the French power system

The Vietnamese delegation’s visit to France marks an important milestone in the project. The program includes exchanges with:

  • Experts and management at the National Grid Expertise Centre (CNER);

  • The Networks and Digital Systems Operations Centre;

  • The Development and Engineering Division;

  • The Strategy, Study and Assessment Division;

  • The Maintenance Centre and 24/7 equipment monitoring room in Nancy;

  • The France–Spain interconnection substation in Baixas;

  • The Jonage Campus Transfo and Academy.

The delegation also visited Regional Maintenance Group (GMR) worksites, with discussions extending to long-term system studies, maintenance, and HVDC-related topics.

These opportunities for exchange allow EVN-NPT teams to observe RTE’s practices first-hand and identify the solutions best suited to the Vietnamese context.

A partnership serving international cooperation

Located at the heart of Southeast Asia, Vietnam holds a strategic position for the development of regional electricity interconnections with China, Laos and Cambodia. Modernizing its transmission network is a crucial step in supporting economic growth, integrating renewable energy and ensuring a successful energy transition.

This technical assistance project reflects RTE international’s mission to share its expertise with transmission system operators worldwide, while also strengthening cooperation between France and Vietnam.

Veronika Milewski, CEO of RTE International, emphasises: “We are proud to strengthen our partnership with EVN-NPT at a time when modernising Vietnam’s power grid is imperative in the face of rapid economic growth. This cooperation demonstrates the strength of collaboration between France and Vietnam in addressing regional energy challenges. Beyond knowledge transfer, this partnership with EVN-NPT reflects our commitment to fostering genuine technical and intercultural dialogue in support of a sustainable energy transition in Southeast Asia.”
